NSF network meeting
25/Oct/2013
Description
The North Sea Fish partnership would hereby like to invite you for the next network meeting in Breskens, The Netherlands at Friday October 25 2013. The network meeting offers a good opportunity to network with representatives of the fishery sector from catch to plate, including fishermen, FLAGs, retailers, consumer organisations, researchers, chef cooks and policy makers. Several invited speakers offer food for discussion: Mr Wind (Hypsos) will present the plans for the fishery experience in Breskens and Mr Vinke, owner and chef cook of the 2 Michelin star restaurant De Kromme Watergang in Hoofdplaat inspires us about the “Taste of Fish". In addition we would like to invite you to join us in a discussion about the EU policy on the discard ban. After lunch 4 workshops will deal with specific NSF issues: `Technological innovation within the fish supply chain’, ‘Traceability’, ‘Linking tourism and fisheries’ and ‘New economic opportunities for fishery villages’. The Greenwich University will present the first results of a study concerning the attitude towards fisheries in fishing villages, in the context of the INTERREG project GIFS (Geography of Inshore Fishing and Sustainability). They carried out a survey on both sides of the Channel and Southern North Sea. How important are the fisheries to the inhabitants? For example, do they buy fresh fish in their village themselves, and do they prefer fish from their “own” ships? How can fishing contribute to the promotion of the village and what future of fishing in their coastal town do they foresee? It is important to better understand the cultural and social value of fisheries for coastal communities.
