The guideline is another step forward to support sustainble tourism in the Wadden Sea which fully considers the ecological requirement of a World Heritage. The tourism destination Lower Saxon North Sea was taken as an example to formulate the framework conditions of sustainable World Heritage package tours which promote the World Heritage status. As a precondition, all tours and activities must build on the heritage values and the protection aims of the national park.
The first part of the guidance describes the relationship between the various tourism stakeholders in development of World Heritage packages, and analyses the market and target audiences. The second part is about legal aspects and sustainability. Finally, a conclusion, a check list with recommendations and two concerete examples are given.
