In densely populated areas, we need multifunctional areas. Along the Scheldt, flood control areas improve the safety and ecology of Flanders. However,agriculture is no longer possible in these areas.To support a shift in the local economy,we want to help municipalities attract visitors and tourists to strenghten local economies.Working closely with local stakeholders, should allow to develop revenue schemes and a'common' business plan that allows the stakeholders to be self-sufficient so permanent governmental investments are no longer necessary.

The construction of flood control areas often limit the possible 'economic use' of the area.We want to find ways to support municipalities and communities in finding alternative revenues afterbuilding a flood control area or climate proof area. Agriculture is often not possible, so we would like to focus on alternative revenue models, like tourism, hospitality, real estate, ...

We would like to set up a 'Park management' pilot near the 'Polders of Kruibeke' to implement and test public-private partnerships and innovative revenue models around flood control areas.

Partners with experience or knowledge in setting up partnerships or park management, focuessed on building a sustainable business model, thus eliminating the need for neverending governmental investments.
