Kent County Council (KCC) has released a ferry tender for a passenger ferry from Gravesend to Tilbury. The ferry service is supported by KCC and Thurrock Council.
The outcome of this tender process is essential to international cooperation and sharing of best practice, and invaluable knowledge and advice received from project partners, such as SEStran, to guarantee sustainable cross border ferry link. Tendering this long standing and important public passenger service will ensure both councils receive best value for money.
The new town pier pontoon built by Gravesham Borough Council (GBC) has been pivotal in this project, as it allows passenger ferry services access to the river. The current ferry operation previously ran from a private pontoon, which prevented other operators joining the market.
Tendering this long standing and important public passenger service will enable both Councils to ensure they are receiving best value for money, and with the GBC pontoon, the market is now open to any operator wishing to bid for the tender to run the ferry service.
